The title of this article might sound like a contradiction –
isn’t one word about solidity, reality and being firmly down
to earth and the other all wispy, mysterious and about being away
with the fairies? Well, no – at least I don’t believe
that should be the case! While a holy person has often been seen
as someone who has withdrawn from the world and can remain unmoved
by its effects and temptations, I rather go with the ideal of someone
who has embraced their life on earth and decided to try and understand
its meaning and purpose. My view is why would God/the Goddess/the
divine source (I don’t want to place any restriction on the
name as there are many paths to God) bother to place us on this
planet if he/she didn’t want us to get involved with it? I
think we're here to live life to the full and that means different
things for different individuals.
I started Triple Moon to help people (to help you!) realise that
spirituality can be part of your normal, everyday life and that
if you start to apply spiritual intelligence to your daily routine
you’ll notice a dramatic difference in the quality of your
life. You’ll become calmer and more centred, aware of things
beyond the surface, able to make more informed and wise decisions,
more sensitive to the situations and people around you and, as a
rewarding side-effect, happier and more adventurous! You’ll
probably also end up wanting to pass this knowledge and experience
on to the people who surround you and that is definitely part of
the divine plan (more of that in a future article).
So what’s spirituality all about? it’s about connecting
with yourself – the real you that exists under all those layers
of conditioning and social niceties, the essential you who knows
your place in the universe and your purpose for living at this time
– this is often called your “higher self”. When
you live according to this higher self, who is in tune with the
divine source, you can fulfil your destiny and make sense of a lot
of things that might otherwise confuse you. I believe we all have
the answers to our questions buried deep inside us, and we also
have access to a vast library of universal wisdom – the trick
is knowing how to tap into it.
To listen to your higher self effectively, you have to be able
to tune out the background noise of your routine responsibilities
and external influences and listen to your inner voice – the
best way to do this is through meditation. I won’t go into
the details of how to do that as that’s covered in another
article, but I will stress the importance of meditating regularly.
Yes, I know it’s hard and yes, it requires discipline but
believe me when I say it does get easier with practice and it really
pays off. Medical research shows that a person who meditates is
healthier, happier, calmer and more focused. When you’ve got
a problem to solve, it’s amazing how meditating on it can
help you find the answer.
The other practical ways to connect to your higher self on a daily
basis are to dowse with a pendulum or use the tarot cards. These
are ways you can get messages from your inner voice when you’re
facing a tricky situation or problem.
For example, say you’ve been offered a new job but you’re
really not sure whether to take it. You can dowse with the pendulum
for a simple yes or no answer to the question “is this new
job right for me?” Your higher self (the one that’s
not worried about mortgage payments or travel times and so on!)
will influence the swing of the pendulum and tell you the answer.
If you don’t trust yourself because you’re feeling too
emotional and mixed up about it, you can always ask a friend to
dowse for confirmation.
If you need a more in-depth look at the influences surrounding
the decision, or want to explore the possible outcomes for taking
or not taking the job, then use the tarot cards to show you what’s
going on beyond the immediate surface and look at issues that may
not have occurred to your rational mind. Just understanding properly
what your motivation is can sometimes be enough to help you come
to a decision. If you’ve never used tarot before, find a good
book that suggests different tarot spreads for life’s varied
questions or attend one of our workshops to get you started!
And don’t ignore that old reliable “gut feeling”.
Have you ever met someone and taken an instant dislike to them for
no apparent reason? Then, later, they do something that confirms
your first impression. That is your higher self in action, and you
have to learn to trust what it tells you – it’s invariably
right. As you learn to tune into this inner voice more effectively
and regularly, using the methods described above, you’ll find
that often you don’t need to use any tools as the messages
will come through loud and clear.
When you meditate, dowse or read the tarot, you empower yourself
to make decisions and live your life according to your true destiny
and purpose. You can be your higher self. To understand and accept
who you are; to know that you’re where you’re supposed
to be, doing what you’re supposed to be doing – doesn’t
that sound heavenly? That’s practical spirituality!
