This chakra is located at the top of the head, conecting us to divine
intelligence and giving us access to cosmic consciousness and understanding.
As the name crown suggests, this chakra represents the ruling principle
of life and is where we can become aware of and understand the underlying
order and meaning of all things. The element of the crown chakra
is thought and its function is "knowing" - through the
crown we access the infinite body of information in the universe
and pull it down through our other chakras to be recognised and
manifested.
Because of its location, the crown chakra relates to the brain
and particularly the higher brain or cerebral cortex where our consciousness
sits. There are two types of consciousness - cognitive, which is
directed towards the world of things, relationships and the self,
and transcendent, which connects us to the realm of the divine beyond
the world of things and relationships. Problems associated with
the crown chakra are depression, alienation, confusion and boredom.
Boosting your crown chakra
As this is the chakra of thought, a healthy crown chakra needs a
clear and healthy mind so that it can rule well. The best way to
achieve this is to meditate regularly, tuning out the outside world
and cultivating sensitivity to the inner world. When we are sensitive
to the inner self, we become aware of our connection to all things.
Wear something violet
Violet is the colour of the crown chakra, so wearing it will help
to put you in touch with its energy of awareness and connection.
If violet doesn’t suit you, try carrying a crystal such as
amethyst, purple fluorite or sugilite.
Practice affirmations
When you realise that everything that becomes part of your reality
starts at the crown, then it's important to be careful what you
think! Affirmations are a great way to make sure that the thoughts
you're manifesting in your life are positive and helpful ones. For
example, if you find it hard to stand up against the demands and
expectations of others, try saying to yourself every day for 21
days "My only duty is to remain true to yourself". Write
it on a sticky note and put it somewhere you'll see it regularly
throughout the day - and be amazed at the difference in your attitude!
Following your thoughts
Sit or lie in a comfortable position and relax. Gradually bring
your attention to the thoughts that pass through your mind. Pick
one and then ask yourself where it came from, what other thoughts
preceded it. Follow that thought to its source, which may be something
that happened years ago or something that's very current, and then
continue repeating the process going further and further back. Eventually
you'll find yourself at a point of infinite source that has no objective
origin.
Once you've done this a few times, just allow your thoughts to
drift by without tracing them, allowing the thoughts to return to
their source. Do this until you find that there are very few or
no thoughts passing through and you, too, have returned to the source.
Remain here as long as you like before slowly returning to normal
consciousness.
