This chakra is situated in the centre of the forehead, just above
eye level, and is often referred to as the third eye. Here is where
your intuition, insight and psychic perception sits, allowing you
to see beyond the physical world and transcend space and time. Clairvoyants
and psychics all have a highly developed brow chakra. In a way, this
is not dissimilar to ordinary seeing since it has been scientifically
proved that it is not really our eyes that see, but our minds. The
eyes are merely focal lenses that transcribe the information they
receive into electrical impulses which are sent to the brain - the
brain then has to interpret that information.
Because of its proximity to the pineal gland which acts as a light
meter for the body, the brow chakra is particularly sensitive to
light and colour (which is the form through which we perceive light).
You can perform powerful self-healing by using your third eye to
visualise an appropriate colour radiating through your body and
aura. Problems associated with this chakra reflect its connection
with the eyes, so eye strain and blurry vision are all signs of
a malfunctioning brow chakra, as well as headaches and nightmares.
If you feel dull, unimaginative and uninspired, that could also
mean your brow chakra would benefit from some attention.
Boosting your brow chakra
As this is the chakra of light, try and expose yourself to as much
natural sunlight as you can. If you would normally spend most of
your time inside or under artificial light, make a point of going
outside more or using special lamps or bulbs that simulate natural
light. Notice what a difference this makes to the way you feel.
Wear something indigo
Indigo (a deep blue/purple) is the colour of the brow chakra, so
wearing it will help to put you in touch with its imaginative and
intuitive energy. If indigo doesn’t suit you, try carrying
a crystal, such as amethyst, purple fluorite or star sapphire.
Use your imagination
Any imaginative activity like writing, painting or just daydreaming
will also exercise your brow chakra. Practice the technique of visualisation,
which at first can be very practical. Close your eyes and try to
conjure up in your mind a picture of your partner or another loved
one. See how clearly you can focus them in your mind, mentally walk
all round them and view them from every angle. Now, if you can do
this then you're just as capable of visualising something that you'd
like to happen or have which will enable it to manifest much more
easily. For example, if you're looking for a new job, visualise
yourself in your chosen workplace, happy and successful. If you
visualise something being completed before you start, it's likely
to happen much more quickly!
Practice meditation
This is the most simple and useful exercise for strengthening the
third eye. A good way to start, since a modern complaint is an overactive
and impossibly chatty mind, is to simply close your eyes and imagine
you're clearing the screen of your mind until its blank. You may
want to add some visualisation technique to help you with this,
such as a picturing a blackboard being rubbed clean or a computer
screen being cleared! Later, you can choose to meditate on particular
colours, objects or ideas. Don't censor or try to analyse what you
see or feel too much, and always make a note of your experiences
after each meditation.
